CARE Program
Helping You Keep the Pet You Love
At the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York, we know that surrendering a pet is never easy. That’s why we created the CARE Program—a one-on-one support system designed to help people keep their pets in their homes whenever possible.
Through CARE, we work directly with individuals and families who are facing challenges—whether it’s a temporary crisis, financial hardship, behavioral issues, or housing concerns. Our compassionate team listens, assesses each situation individually, and offers solutions that are tailored to the specific needs of the pet and their people.
What Can We Assist With?
- Access to pet food and supplies through our Pet Pantry
- Referrals to low-cost spay/neuter or veterinary services
- Advice or training referrals for behavior challenges
- Temporary supplies or equipment
- Connections to community resources
- Emotional support and planning for pet care
The goal is simple: Keep pets with the people who love them.

When Rehoming Becomes the Best Option
While we do everything possible to help you keep your pet, we understand that sometimes rehoming is the kindest and safest choice. That's why all rehoming requests now start with a
CARE consultation
so we can cater the needs to your unique sitiuation. This helps ensure we’ve explored every possible way to keep your pet at home before making the transition.
