Foster Care
Give a pet a temporary home—
and a better shot at a forever one.
Fostering makes a huge difference for animals who are recovering from surgery, too young for adoption, or simply overwhelmed in a shelter setting.
Before signing up, ask yourself:
- Do I have space for a temporary pet?
- Can I keep my own pets safely separated if needed?
- Am I comfortable tracking and reporting changes in behavior or health?
When you agree to foster an animal from the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York, you're never on your own. We’ll provide all the supplies and support you need to care for your temporary guest, so you can focus on giving them love, comfort, and a safe place to grow or heal.
How to become a foster:
1. Complete the foster care interest form
2. Attend a foster Orientation at our shelter
